It's our third day at Solomon's Landing, MD. We're in shorts and tee shirts in the humid 70ish degree weather. The trees say Indian Summer; we say a late summer blast before the cold weather hits. We've been marooned here since Monday when it was cold and blustery. We're lying in T Docks with our four boat flotilla waiting for a "weather window," as they say. Today it's still very windy, choppy and stormy. We're going nowhere fast.
We arrived here Monday, having motored from Annapolis in a 15-20 south wind right on our nose. Sevilla wasn't happy about the rough ride. She was loaded to the gills with provisions for six months. The weather hasn't improved and no matter how much wishful thinking in our group, the forecasts were not in our favor--big blustery winds, "nocturnal tornadoes," five foot waves, and 20-25 knot winds from the south, with 30 knot "gusts."
Our plan is to head to the Bahamas in Feb. After we leave the Chesapeake Bay at Norfolk, for Portsmouth, VA, we will enter the Intracoastal Waterway, and stay in the "ditch," as she is affectionately known, for about 1,069 miles to Miami.
Since we are getting a late(r) start, we hope to make it to Portsmouth in two days. Fair weather is predicted for tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010. See you at dawn for a long day.More tomorrow from Deltaville,
Maureen and Glen
